“In 2020, it was discovered that the Singapore Prison Service had for years leaked death row prisoners’ correspondence, including privileged letters between the prisoners and their lawyers, to the Attorney-General’s Chambers. The full extent of these leaks was only discovered after multiple cases were brought against the AGC. While these rounds of litigation were dismissed, it was found that at least 13 prisoners (12 still currently on death row) were found to be affected. It was also discovered in 2021 that the AGC had requested some of the correspondence from the prisons.”

There are only a large number of dead people
that you fed on,
that you rigorously argued were wrong
and then you executed them, in the name of
keeping the country safe, and functional, and viable
for you to do it over and over again.
For you to do it while claiming
that you knew what was good for them.
Death was good for them.
Probably true,
looking at how fucking misconstrued
our images of ourselves have become in
this life;
a pale shadow of a fighting chance
at trying to survive.
You make me absolutely sick
to know that I revived
a language under your auspices.
It wasn't enough to abuse me.
You also had to elide
this.
What the fuck is this?
You mean I went through what I did with Eunoia
for this?
You mean I go through life every day on this island
while hypocrites pretend
their systems are so above board
that just questioning them
earns what you used to call a slap on the wrist?
Slap me silly then.
After SPH, and Keppel, and the Albatross Papers, and Spectrum, and Coldstore, and the weirdness going behind the Kristang walking tour
wake me when it's over.
Wake me when we know
what you were really after.
Because it wasn't democracy.
It wasn't peace.
It wasn't progress.
It wasn't all-round outstanding achievement.
It wasn't justice.
It wasn't equality.
And, from what it seems, it most definitely was not
any kind of fucking adherence to due process.
