Almari Anyil: The Indigo Cabinet

The Open-Access Bibliography of Eurasian Literature
consolidated by Kevin Martens Wong
Last updated: 19 June 2023

How are works organised?

Works are listed by

  1. first, their genre / mode of presentation in alphabetical order;

  2. then, their primary language(s) the work is written in using the iso 639-3 international standard code (eng = English; mcm = Kristang; eng/mcm = bilingual English-Kristang, English listed first; mcm/eng = bilingual Kristang-English, Kristang listed first; eng/jpn = bilingual English-Japanese, English listed first; mcm/tam = bilingual Kristang-Tamil, Kristang listed first, eng/mcm/tam = trilingual English-Kristang-Tamil, English listed first);

  3. then, the surname or patronymic of their first and/or only author in alphabetical order;

  4. then, in alphabetical order by title in bold font.

The letter and number at the start of each author’s name is purely administrative, and is based on the first letter of their surname, seeking to facilitate faster scrolling or moving between author names (it will thus change as new authors are added to the bibliography). Works with multiple authors are listed under all of those authors. If available online or listed online, those links are provided in brackets at the end of each listing. Press CTRL + F on a web browser or use the Search function on a mobile browser to search for terms based on the above in the bibliography.

What works are listed in the Almari Anyil?

All published creative work excluding academic research and writing and including creative non-fiction, memoirs and biographies, columns, poetry, prose, plays, graphic novels, comics, vignettes, films, music, performances and exhibitions

  1. by any Eurasian in any part of the world

  2. dealing with Eurasian identity, culture, characters or the Kristang language in some form, whether by a Eurasian writer or non-Eurasian writer

  3. made publicly available online

Full listings of works collected in anthologies are also preferred and will be gradually added to the site in batches for individual authors.

My work has not been listed!

This bibliography is constantly being updated, and is a labour of love unpacked by one lone, gay, non-binary Singaporean Kristang Eurasian with insufficient money to buy difficult-to-find or out-of-print works, but who is still very interested in including everything as far as possible, especially smaller publications or family histories that may have been self-published. As such, please do drop an email to merlionsman at gmail dot com if your work should be included on this list but has yet to be.

Mutu grandi merseh to Charlene Shepherdson for George Yeo’s chapter on Eurasian identity in his Musings, and to the National Library Board of Singapore for the archiving and preserving of so much of the community’s work!
